Artist Profile

"Many painters set out initially to capture what the eye sees and the mind translates, creating reality of a reflection."
Dee finds poetry in a quiet relationship with nature which affords for her a place of communication, allowing her to touch
on the experience of color, form and light. "There are voices which we hear in solitude, but they grow faint and inaudible
as we enter the world." (Ralph Waldo Emerson). Dee developed an interest in painting while in college. Later, while living
in Butte County, she had friends who were art teachers, and they all painted en plein air, escaping to the world of wildlife
and nature. She regularly continues these escapes with her friends.
Dee begins most of her water media paintings using the wet into wet technique, remaining loose, blending colors, keeping
edges soft and leaving some areas unfinished or left to the imagination of the viewer. She paints to the rhythm and flow of
her initial application. Recently, she has been using acrylic ink which gives her paintings an unusual appearance. She has
studied with many renowned artists and feels that every approach to that sheet of white paper and selected subject matter
is a learning experience.
Dee advises new artists to be true to themselves. Be open to nature, color and the rhythms of life. Identify and respect
your inner self and don't be too hard on yourself. Enjoy creating. With her business career winding down, Dee looks forward
to devoting more time to her art.
